Located in Essington, fifteen minutes south of center city Philadelphia, the Corinthian Yacht Club of Philadelphia is a membership of sailors and their families who share a common interest in waterfront activities and sailboat racing. Since 1892, sailing and racing has been our tradition. Today, our yacht club supports better than 60 days a year of organized racing, our members' commitment to excellence can be seen through one of the most diverse sailing programs in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Corinthian is a participatory club with sailboat racing and cruising, trap shooting, social events and other related activities which appeal its’ members of all skills levels and experience. The beautiful Clubhouse and grounds located on the Delaware River offers a majestic venue for its members' and guests'. The Club, through close ties with the Corinthian Historic Foundation, maintains an extensive collection of maritime artifacts and nautical artwork. Our Club premises are also available for private catering engagements, weddings and corporate events.
Corinthian promotes high quality, friendly competition, good sportsmanship and camaraderie among its membership. In addition to our club racing and junior sailing programs we host an extensive regatta schedule including our Wednesday evening Spring and Summer series. The Club hosts an annual MAYRA regatta and is home to both the Drexel and University of Pennsylvania sailing teams. Our Club's trap shooting program offers both in house and local competition and is recognized as one of the fastest growing programs in the region.
In addition to the extensive coastal cruising opportunities; Corinthian members actively participate in racing programs in a number of different types of boats. Although membership is generally required to skipper a boat on a regular basis in any of our programs, crewing on members' boats is typically open to non-members; and skippering in some of the programs is open to non-members participation such as the juniors sailing program as noted below. • PHRF Racing: 24' to 47' racer/cruisers participate in an annual Spring and Fall cruise on the Chesapeake Bay. Each cruise includes PHRF racing (both spinnaker and non-spinnaker divisions) as well as social and cultural activities. The Club also sponsors several rendezvous cruises along the Eastern seaboard. The Corinthian is a member of both CBYRA and MAYRA sailing regions and club members regularly participate in inshore and offshore sailing regattas.
• J22: Probably the most popular one design keel boats in the country with main, jib and spinnaker, sailed with 3 to 5. Racing on Wednesday evenings throughout the Spring and Summer with multiple short course race formats. There is an extensive regional regatta schedule and many members of the fleet race in National events. Non-members are invited to crew and the fleet offers a learn to sail program for anyone who wants to join the fun.
• Vanguard 15: 15' one design centerboard boats with main and jib, sailed by crew of 2. Racing on Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons with multiple, short course race format. Extensive local regatta schedule. Non-members are invited to crew. Fleet boat available for a day or two of guest skippering by members or non-members.
• Laser:14' one design single-handed centerboard boat which is the single handed dinghy of choice at Corinthian. Our laser fleet races in the Wednesday evening series through the Spring and Summer. A growing and popular frostbite racing series on Sundays in fall offers and opportunity for Philadelphia sailors to extend their racing season using multiple, short course race format. There is an extensive local and national regatta schedule.
• Junior Sailing: The Club's Junior Sailing and race training programs for 8 to 17 year olds does not require Club membership. Boats used are: 8' Optimist Dinghies, 14' Lasers and Laser Radials and 14' 420s. Our summer juniors sailing program is designed to attract kids looking to sail in the early weeks of summer in our one and two week season-June into early-July. Non-members welcome. Charter boats available. In addition, the Club's membership in MAYRA (Mid Atlantic Yacht Racing Assn.) provides an extensive summer sailing schedule for adults and juniors with 16 south Jersey Yacht Clubs

• College Sailing: Race training in both team racing and fleet racing in Club 420s (boats supplied) on weekday afternoons in spring and fall. Extensive local regatta schedule.
These fleets and programs are supported by an outstanding private harbor, a large fleet of race committee and support boats, and a delightful clubhouse and property with a beautiful view of the Delaware River.
Membership: The Corinthian welcomes membership inquiries from sailors with an interest in sailboat racing, including those with limited experience.
