Our 2008 Junior Sailing Program is back in full swing at CYC. In addition to the 2 week Junior sailing camp we are introducing Tuesday evening junior's clinic from 6 to 8 pm starting in June throught August. This year, we continue with growth as our focus; and broaden our recognition of the junior sailors at CYC. This recognition will come in the form of both on and off water activities, anchored around the Sailing Camp. The objective of all our programs for this coming season is to provide more sailing education opportunities than in years past to a broader range of juniors (i.e., ages 8 through 15).

The Corinthian Yacht Club once again is offering the opportunity to join other junior sailors in our sailing instruction and safe fun on the waters of the Delaware River. Over the past few years, the Club has introduced many young sailors to the joys of sailing and safe boating skills. Members, children of members, grandchildren of members and anyone else who wants to share in the joy and excitement of sailing is welcome to participate.
Please note that each attendee must supply his or her own boat.
Skip Moorehouse has boats for lease and can be contacted:

The Corinthian Yacht Club invites young sailors to come and discover the joys of sailing. No experience required! You need a sense of adventure and the will to learn. Participants need to provide their own boat, life jacket, sunscreen, lunch, and swim suit. The club may be able to assist in finding a boat. A variety of activities are planned, including activities in the swimming pool.
The program runs Monday – Friday, June 16th -June 20th and June 23rd – June 27th. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, the program runs from 9:00 AM-4:00 PM. Wednesday, the program begins at noon. This change in time permits the Juniors to participate in short races near the docks so parents can watch. The Wednesday night program coincides with the club one design racing and Club Cookout. Sailors can participate in a one-week or two-week program. Participants must pass a swim test by swimming the length of the club pool without a life preserver. The test also requires putting on a life preserver while in the swimming pool. All participants must wear a properly sized life preserver (PFD).
Junior Sailing Clinics: These will be held from 6-8PM on Tuesday Evenings starting in June and running through August.
Similiar to last years program, instruction will be guided by the skill level of each evenings participants. Look for more details to follow.
Optimist
- Optimists are ideally suited for the training of
water safety, basic rope-work, sail and boat handling. Junior Sailors with
little or no sailing experience will enjoy the basics, and those with some
experience will begin refining intermediate sailing skills in the Optimist Pram
class sailing dinghy. The OPTI Green Fleet is a beginner's class for sailors
who have little or no prior boat experience or who need more experience on the
water before entering a competitive environment. Knowledge of boat rigging,
basic sailing, water safety and confidence in handling all points of sail are
emphasized. The beginner class will be held in the Optimist, a one-person boat.
Competitive Fleet: This class is for sailors who have successfully completed
the beginner class or who have prior sailing experience. The curriculum is an
extension of the beginner class with further emphasis on independence in
skippering, race tactics, rigging, boat maintenance and water safety. Sailors
will be broken into groups according to ability.
