Summer Series I - 2008

7/16/08 - Summer Series Race Night 4 (Series Finale)

After last week's cancellation due to bad weather (the 2nd night cancelled this series), we went back racing yesterday on the last night of Summer Series I.  Dave Milliner and Leandra Kern took both wins amidst a great effort by the whole fleet.  The first race started in light and shifting winds with a strong current going towards the start line.  It didn't look good for the eventual winners at the start, as the whole fleet left them behind in dead last.  But the wind didn't stay in one place for long as Dave and Lea took advantage of the shifts and picked up half the fleet by the windward mark.  By the jibe mark they were in first, passing the series leaders Charlie and Mia for the win. In the second race, the wind stayed more consistent, with Dave and Lea and Geoff and Zack Wilkinson jockeying for first and second.  Dave and Lea managed to extend away from a fast Geoff and Zack on the last downwind leg to grab their second win of the night.

The Summer Series I still goes to Charlie and Mia, would sailed a flawless two-week span, capturing 5 wins in a row over two consecutive nights.  Second goes to Dave and Lea, and third place in the series goes to Jack and Laura/Tim/Tyler.

Next Wednesday, July 23rd, we will have a Open Race Night (before starting Summer Series II on July 30th).  So, if you know anyone who wants to race for fun down at the club on V15's, Please invite them to come!  Let Dave Milliner know, so we can figure out who is in what boat and who needs crews etc...  We should have plenty of free V15's to sail.  Thanks!

------------------------------

We hope to have more boats on the starting line this year with a great and generous comitment by all the V15 members by allowing their boats to be sailed if they can't make it down for race-night.  ALong with the two "development" V15's, CYCOP will be able to field up to 10 V15's if we have enough sailors.

If you are members of the club and know anyone interested in learning and/or racing, please have them contact Charlie, our fleet captain. For all non-members, If you are interested in racing, please also feel free to contact our captain for more details on how you can come down and race on Wednesday nights.  If you want to just crew for a current member, please contact us and we most likely can find you a skipper to sail with.
